The three major rules for analyzing visual function mainly refer to ①1:1 rule ②P rule ③S rule. Today we will learn about the third one, the [S rule]. The S in the S rule stands for (stimulus-response), which is mainly used to analyze the relationship between accommodation and vergence in binocular vision. First of all, we must understand the basic concepts of accommodation and vergence. Accommodation is the process of changing the refractive power of the eye to see close objects clearly, and vergence is the change of the binocular visual axis so that both eyes can focus on the same object. When using the S rule for analysis, it is necessary to measure the accommodation response (BCC or MEM and other methods) and vergence ability (including far and near distances of phoria and fusion range).

Although the family is rich (normal adjustment), they still have to be thrifty when buying things (adjustment lag), and spend as little as possible (adjustment can be used as little as possible). The ability to adjust decreases with age. When the adjustment ability decreases, it is not a matter of not being willing to spend money (adjustment lag), but having no money to spend (no adjustment). Therefore, it is not meaningful to test the adjustment response of older patients.
